Description
During WW2 the United States developed and used several versions of metal cased Anti-Tank mines, starting with the M1, M1A1, and finally M4. The steel casing made these very easy to find with mine detecting equipment. There were non-magnetic alloys that could be used, but would have been significantly more expensive and harder to work with than the usual steel.
The plastic housing M5 anti-tank mine, which used as little metal as possible, rendering it almost undetectable was produced.
